SERIES: Light Has Found Us
TITLE: Part 3 - Peace in the Dark
SPEAKER: Pastor CJ Cody
Scriptures—
Isaiah 9:2-7
Summary—
Pastor CJ calls believers to move beyond clichéd celebrations to grasp the deeper meaning of Christ’s birth. He contrasts seeking peace with seeking control, teaching that true peace comes through surrendering to God’s authority. He describes peace in three dimensions—peace with God, peace of God within us, and peace with others—and, drawing from Isaiah, encourages living and speaking in faith even in darkness. Pastor CJ ultimately invites us to stop striving for control and rest in God’s rule, where lasting peace is found.
Key Takeaways—
Christmas loses its power when we forget the true significance of the Savior’s birth
We often choose control over peace, but we cannot have both at the same time
True peace isn’t dependent on circumstances being right; that desire is really a desire for control
The government rests on Christ’s shoulders, and lasting peace comes from surrendering to His authority
Peace works in three dimensions: peace with God, peace within, and peace with others
Like Isaiah, God calls us to live and speak by revelation—declaring victory and trusting His faithfulness even in darkness
Discussion Questions—
In what areas of your life are you fighting God for control instead of accepting the peace He offers?
How can remembering God's past faithfulness help you maintain peace during present uncertainties and dark seasons?
What does it practically look like for you to “rest on His shoulders”?
How does recognizing Jesus as Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace change who or what you look to for leadership and guidance?
What specific burdens, yokes, or areas of oppression do you need to surrender today to experience the peace that guards your heart and mind?
What step of faith might God be calling you to take—one that fear, grief, or comfort has kept you from—and how could your obedience impact others connected to your journey?
Practical Application—
Write down one specific area where you're fighting God for control.
Begin speaking about your situation as if God has already worked it out. Practice using past tense faith declarations.
Take time this week to physically rest—take a nap, go to bed early, or take a break—as an act of trust that God has things under control.
Closing Prayer—
Close your session by praying as a group. Thank God for His peace. Surrender specific areas of control. Ask for peace that guards hearts and minds. Pray for strength and support for one another.
