SERIES: Anchored: Anchored in Love
TITLE: Part 5: A Powerful Prayer for Supernatural Strength
SPEAKER:
Pastor Cj Cody

Scriptures—

Ephesians 3:14–21, Genesis 2:18, Lamentations 3:22–23, Romans 5:8, Ephesians 6:12, Proverbs 27:17, John 13:35, Acts 1:4–5, and Acts 2:1–4.

Summary—

We are invited into Paul’s powerful prayer in Ephesians 3—a prayer that is just as relevant for our lives, families, and communities today as it was for the early church. Pastor CJ challenges us to see that God’s love is both a present reality and a deeper revelation we are meant to grow into, a love so vast that many of us have yet to fully grasp its depth, width, height, and length. Like the ocean, God’s love is endless and mysterious, always offering more than we think we have seen. This love is not meant to be understood in isolation but experienced in community, where we open our lives to one another, allow iron to sharpen iron, and become rooted and grounded in love. Through this shared journey, we move toward being filled to overflowing—something only made possible by the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit, who enables us to love the way Christ calls us to love.

Key Takeaways—

  • Love as Reality: God’s love is already a reality in our lives—we exist because of it.

  • Love as Revelation: Many of us live in God’s love without fully having it revealed to our hearts.

  • The Progression of Love: We move from being held by love, to rooted in love, to grasping its dimensions, and ultimately being filled with God’s fullness.

  • Community Is Essential: God works in community, and we cannot grasp the fullness of His love in isolation.

  • Community Is Formed: Community doesn’t just happen—it is built as iron sharpens iron and we grow together.

  • The Power Formula: Transformation happens through prayer, people, and the power of the Holy Spirit enabling us to love supernaturally.

Discussion Questions—

  1. How does understanding Christ’s love as both a reality you live in and a revelation you must receive change the way you approach your relationship with God?

  2. In what areas of your life have you been trying to grow or succeed independently when God intended those experiences to happen through community?

  3. Paul prays that believers would be rooted and established in love rather than merely held by it—what practical steps can you take to move deeper into that rootedness?

  4. How does the communal nature of the Trinity shape the way you think about spiritual growth, relationships, and ministry?

  5. What does it look like for you to fight battles on your knees in prayer instead of relying on arguments, social media, or human wisdom?

  6. How would grasping the boundless dimensions of Christ’s love and relying on the power of the Holy Spirit transform the way you love difficult people and face challenges in your church or community?

Practical Application—

  • Pray Ephesians 3:14–21 daily over yourself and your family, asking God for a fresh outpouring of His Spirit and committing one area of your life to prayer instead of self-effort.

  • Strengthen community by reaching out to someone in the group for coffee, a meal, or a call, and consider taking a step toward hosting or participating in a group gathering.

  • Practice spiritual discipline by memorizing Ephesians 3:20–21, journaling about an experience of God’s love, and choosing prayer over online arguments or controversial posts.

Closing Prayer—

Close your session by inviting different group members to pray portions of Paul’s prayer from Ephesians 3:14–21 over the group, asking for spiritual strength, deeper faith, and a greater understanding of Christ’s love. Pray for a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit to renew hearts and unite the group.
