SERIES: Anchored: Anchored in Obedience
TITLE: Part 6: Discipline, Destiny, and Divine Direction
SPEAKER:
Pastor CJ Cody

Scriptures—

Luke 5:1–11, Galatians 6:9, Proverbs 3:5–6, Philippians 2:8, Matthew 26:39, Luke 22:42, Hebrews 12:1, Revelation 2:7, Revelation 2:11, Revelation 2:17, Revelation 2:29, Revelation 3:6, Revelation 3:13, Revelation 3:22, and Genesis 3:9.

Summary—

Pastor CJs powerful message takes us into Luke 5, where professional fishermen face a night of complete failure and are washing their nets when Jesus arrives. Though disappointed, they remained disciplined, and that faithfulness positioned them for destiny. Pastor CJ challenges us to consider where we may have quit too soon or let discouragement move us out of the very place God wants to meet us. Like Peter saying, “because you say so,” we are called to obey even when it defies our logic and feelings. Their obedience led not only to an overwhelming catch but to the revelation of their true calling—to fish for people. Ultimately, Pastor CJ reminds us that simple, everyday obedience can unlock extraordinary purpose.

Key Takeaways—

  • God’s work advances through ordinary people who simply say yes to His calling.

  • Discipline positions you for destiny—remaining faithful during disappointment keeps you ready for God’s timing and helps you not grow weary in doing good.

  • The call to obedience often confronts our logic, our feelings, and our will, requiring us to trust beyond what makes sense.

  • God’s instructions are not illogical but translogical—they transcend our understanding and invite deeper faith.

  • Obedience reveals both who God is and who you are, uncovering your true identity and purpose while keeping you focused on the race marked out for you rather than competing with others.

  • Simple acts of obedience can unlock profound blessing, impact unseen generations, and influence people connected to your yes in ways you cannot yet see.

Discussion Questions—

  1. In what areas of your life has disappointment caused you to step away from the very discipline that may be positioning you for God’s purpose?

  2. How might God be inviting you to obey in unexpected ways, and are you overlooking those invitations because they do not match your expectations?

  3. When has your logic, feelings, or personal plans kept you from obeying what God was asking, and what was the outcome?

  4. Are there simple acts of obedience you have complicated or delayed because you do not feel ready or willing to follow through?

  5. How open are you to God redirecting your plans entirely, even if it means releasing timelines, comparisons, or competition with others?

  6. Who could be impacted by your obedience right now, and what might change if your response to God became, “Because You say so, I will”?

Practical Application—

  • Identify one specific thing God has been prompting you to do and name what is holding you back—your logic, your feelings, or your will.

  • Take one small, practical step of obedience this week, whether that means apologizing, starting a discipline, giving, serving, having a hard conversation, or letting go of your own plan.

  • Share your commitment with at least one person in this group for accountability and prayer.

Closing Prayer—

Close your session by praying together as a group. Pray for softened hearts that can hear God’s voice clearly and respond without resistance. Ask for courage to obey even when His instructions do not make sense, and for the discipline to remain faithful in the position He has placed you in. Pray for freedom from comparison and competition so each person can walk confidently in their unique calling. Ask God to use your obedience for generational impact, blessing others in ways you may not yet see.
