SERIES: Life After Death
TITLE: A New Way of Living: Contributing to the Body of Christ
SPEAKER: Pastor CJ
Scriptures—
Ephesians 4:17; Ephesians 4:1; Ephesians 4:7; Ephesians 4:8; Ephesians 4:11–12; Matthew 9:17
Summary—
Pastor CJ challenges us to examine the foundation of our faith—whether it’s shaped by Scripture or by culture, opinions, and personal experiences. In Ephesians 4, Paul calls believers to live differently from the world, with renewed hearts and minds. Pastor CJ highlights that God’s gifts are meant to build up others, not be kept for ourselves. Like the Dead Sea that receives but never gives out, we become spiritually stagnant when we only consume. When we truly understand the grace and new life we’ve received, we’re called to freely serve, give, and pour into others.
Key Takeaways—
Our theology should be shaped by Scripture, not culture, opinions, or personal experiences.
God calls believers to live differently from the world and reflect His kingdom values.
Every believer has been given gifts meant to strengthen and build up others.
Spiritual growth comes from using what God has given us, not just receiving more.
Faith is demonstrated through serving, giving, and contributing in obedience to God.
Healthy faith grows in community, where we learn, serve, and apply Scripture together.
Discussion Questions—
How have culture, experiences, or outside voices shaped your theology more than Scripture?
What does living sacrificially for God look like in your current season of life?
In what ways are you receiving from God, and how are you giving back through service or contribution?
Are you allowing God’s gifts to flow through you, or are fear and past wounds holding you back?
How can serving God with obedience—regardless of others’ actions—change your perspective on ministry and community?
What old patterns or priorities is God asking you to release so you can fully walk in the new life He has for you?
Practical Application—
Seek God personally – Spend time in Scripture, identify areas shaped by culture instead of God’s Word, and pray about how He wants you to serve.
Invite accountability – Share what God is showing you with others, check in throughout the week, and encourage one another in growth.
Take a step to serve – Explore opportunities to contribute your gifts and connect with a ministry or area where you can build up others.
Closing Prayer—
Close your session by praying as a group. Pray for softened hearts that are sensitive and responsive to God’s voice and truth. Ask Him for courage to serve, contribute, and step out in faith despite past hurts, disappointments, or fears. Pray for wisdom to build your theology on Scripture rather than culture, opinions, or experiences. Lift up the specific areas of service and contribution that group members shared, asking God to guide and strengthen them as they take next steps. Pray especially for the men attending the Mountain Men retreat—that God would speak clearly, renew their hearts, and draw them deeper into His presence and purpose.
